Managing heavy flow
As someone who has experienced heavy periods myself, I know that finding the right routine can make all the difference. Over time, I've learned that the best protection often comes from combining products that work for your body and lifestyle.
That's why I curated this collection of high-absorbency essentials, leakproof underwear, and trusted period care products to help you.
Heavy Flow Care Checklist:
- Prioritize frequent changes: Don't wait for your product to reach full capacity. Changing your pad, tampon, or cup frequently is the #1 way to stay dry, comfortable, and leak-free.
- The power of layers: For those extra-heavy days, trust in the combination method. Pairing our most absorbent Overnight or Extra Heavy Flow pads with our PadGuard™ period panties gives you a double layer of protection.
- Match your flow to your product: Don’t try to make one product fit the entire cycle. Use our Heavy Flow pads for the peak of your cycle, and transition to Regular or Light absorbency as your flow lightens. This prevents bulkiness and ensures you have the right amount of protection.
- Find your perfect fit: A leak is often just a sign of a mismatch. If you’re using a cup, ensure you’ve chosen the right size for your anatomy; if you’re using pads, ensure they are positioned correctly. Don’t hesitate to try a different size if you’re still experiencing leaks — it’s often the missing piece of the puzzle.
- Master your night routine: Sleep anxiety is real, but you don't have to wake up constantly to check. For total peace of mind, I highly recommend our Period Sleep Shorts. With their 40ml absorbency capacity and full-coverage leak protection in both the front and back, they are often enough on their own.
-
Sleep position matters:
- If you sleep on your back: Focus on superior rear-guard protection (my go-to is our Sleep Shorts or Overnight pads).
- If you sleep on your stomach: Ensure your protection is positioned further forward.
- For side sleepers: The key is a snug, well-fitting pair of period panties or shorts that move with you, ensuring no gaps on the sides.
Know when to seek advice: While heavy flow is common, it should remain manageable. If your flow becomes so heavy that you need to change your product every hour, if you pass large clots, or if you feel persistent fatigue or dizziness, please consult a healthcare professional. These can be signs of conditions like anemia or hormonal imbalances that require medical attention rather than just better protection. Your health is the priority.
